We are a husband & wife team. Based in the mountains of Montana & Washington State, we’ve been photographing and filming couples since the start of 2021.
Welcome to our blog where you’ll discover elopement planning resources, as well as beautiful galleries from real weddings!
If you’re dreaming about a fall Montana wedding that blends iconic Glacier National Park views with intentional moments with loved ones, this day is a perfect example of what that can look like.
H & S planned a September wedding in Glacier National Park that focused on time together, iconic views, and celebrating with the people (and pups) they love most. The day started with a quiet first look along Avalanche Creek, followed by a ceremony at the Avalanche Amphitheater surrounded by their closest family and friends.
After the ceremony, we explored some of the park’s most beautiful and accessible locations for portraits like the beach at Lake McDonald Lodge and Big Bend along the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Coming from the midwest, these views completely blew them away!
These two ended their wedding day with a full reception back in Whitefish at a private rental, complete with dinner, dancing, and a relaxed celebration.
If you’re planning a Glacier National Park elopement or micro wedding, this timeline is a great example of how you can experience multiple locations, include guests and your doggos, and still keep your day feeling personal and intentional.
The Avalanche Creek Picnic Area is one of the busiest stops along the Going-to-the-Sun Road, but it’s also one of the most underrated locations for a Glacier National Park micro wedding. Parking can take time, especially in September, so plan to arrive early or build buffer time into your wedding day timeline (like we did).
Once you walk past the picnic area and down to the creek, it opens up into a wide, rocky riverbed with mountain views and glacial water. Despite how popular this area is, it’s usually easy to find a quiet spot along the river, making it a great option for a private first look location!
We met H & S here and found a secluded stretch of the creek for their first look. Even with other visitors nearby, the space felt private. The sound of the water and the open landscape made it a really peaceful place to start their adventure.

After their first look, we spent some time taking portraits and exploring the river before heading up the trail to Avalanche Amphitheater for their ceremony. Starting the day at Avalanche Creek gave them a quiet moment together before meeting up with their guests, which is something we always recommend for micro weddings.

Avalanche Amphitheater is easily one of our favorite ceremony sites in Glacier National Park. It’s tucked into the forest near the Trail of the Cedars and Avalanche Campground, giving it a secluded, intimate feel while still being super easy to access.
Even though the dirt path for Trail of the Cedars runs just behind the amphitheater, the ceremony space itself feels set apart and quiet, especially during the off-season, on a weekday, or during a well-timed ceremony. The layout here is perfect for a traditional processional, with space for an aisle, room for your wedding party to stand up front, and bench seating that keeps guests focused on the couple.
H & S’s ceremony was simple and meaningful, with handwritten vows, prayer, and faith-centered elements that made the whole experience feel really personal to them. It’s a great example of how a Glacier National Park micro wedding can still feel structured and intentional without needing a lot of extra setup.

Guest Count: Up to 100 guests
Season: Typically early May through mid-October
Site Details: Wheelchair accessible, bench seating provided, no tables/chairs or décor allowed, snacks permitted

Dogs are no longer allowed at Avalanche Amphitheater. While H & S were able to include their two dogs with special permit approval at the time, current permit rules prohibit pets at Avalanche Amphitheater since access requires walking along the Trail of the Cedars.
If having your doggo(s) at your ceremony is important, there are still great dog-friendly options in Glacier, including:
You can explore the full list of Glacier National Park wedding ceremony locations on the park’s website to find the best fit for your day. Each location will say whether pets are allowed!
After their ceremony, we all trekked over to Lake McDonald Lodge for some family photos! While Avalanche is absolutely gorgeous, it’s not the easiest spot for large group portraits. The lodge area—especially the shoreline along Lake McDonald—is much more conducive for gathering everyone together comfortably.
Lake McDonald Lodge Beach has great accessibility, which makes it ideal for family photos with groups of all sizes and ages. It’s also one of the few areas in Glacier where dogs are allowed (as long as they’re on leash), which can be a huge plus for couples including their pets on their elopement day.
We were greeted with sunshine, open lake views, and the cutest little butterflies flying around, which made the whole experience feel extra special. It was a perfect, low-stress stop to build into H & S’s wedding timeline to transition between their ceremony and adventuring along the Going-to-the-Sun Road for portraits.

After family photos, we ventured up the Going-to-the-Sun Road to Big Bend for bride and groom portraits. This spot is probably the most well-known and iconic view of the park!
Big Bend is ideal for fall couples portraits because you get some awesome fall colors, expansive views of the peaks and the Going-to-the-Sun Road winding around the mountain, as well as the vast valley below. It’s a short walk from the parking area, and it can often be busy. So, make sure to plan ahead and give yourself a little bit of extra time! Also, make sure to be courteous to other visitors and allow them the space to capture some iconic moments as well.
If you’re planning a Glacier micro wedding or elopement, Big Bend works beautifully as a sunset photo location. Plus, there are tons of vantage points and spots to capture the magic here!

On our way back to meet up with their loved ones in Whitefish, we made a quick pit stop at Lake McDonald to capture the final light of the day. Sunset along the lake offers a completely different mood from earlier portraits at the lodge. It’s soft and golden light that creates a more warm and peaceful vibe. H & S were pretty tired from such an incredible day, so we tried to focus on capturing moments here that felt a little calmer.
For couples planning a Glacier micro wedding, building in a sunset moment—even if it’s just a quick drive-in spot along the road—can be one of the most memorable highlights of the day.

After a full day of celebrating in Glacier National Park, H & S met everyone back at a stunning private rental in Whitefish, Montana for their reception. They booked a spacious house that comfortably hosted most of their guests and allowed them to set up tables in the main living space for an intimate dinner.
The evening began with prayer and a catered sit-down meal, followed by heartfelt toasts from family and friends. After dessert, the couple shared their first dances before the celebration opened up to a lively dance floor! Even though it was a long and busy day, the energy from everyone stayed high! All of their guests even formed a tunnel for a fun champagne spray at the end of the night. How freaking cool?!
Hosting a reception at a private rental in Whitefish is a fantastic option for couples who want a full celebration with guests after a day in the park. It combines the chill vibes of being in a home with the flexibility of catering or home-cooked meals. This option keeps the day intimate, while still allowing the tradition of a wedding reception! Just please make sure to always check with the hosts prior to planning your reception at a rental.
